Contrary Polish: Bonfire and Hayride

Hi everyone! Hopefully the start of the week is going well for you! For me, tomorrow is the start of classes - I work as a Teaching Assistant, so I'll have a crop of fresh young minds to bore to tears, lol! The truth though, the beginning of the semester is always a nerve-wracking time from the perspective of an instructor/TA, maybe even more so than when I was a student.

Today I have two polishes from the indie brand Contrary Polish. I've been excited about these polishes for awhile, they are one of the few indies that don't do glitter polishes. All of their polishes are either cremes or jellies (with one sheer shimmer as the lone exception). But that doesn't mean they are your run of the mill cremes that you get from mainstream brands. I think you will find that these polishes have a unique quality that you could only get with indie polishes.

Bonfire and Hayride are both limited edition fall colours that came out a few months ago. The names and colours certainly do evoke fall, but for me, these colours would work year round.

Bonfire is a gorgeous tomato red jelly with dark flecks and a golden shimmer. The shimmer is intriguing for two reasons: the first is that it's made of irregular shaped particles, and the second is its complexity with hints of pink and fuchsia. This is two coats - the first coat was a bit streaky but the second coat covered perfectly.

Hayride is a nice tan colour with brown flecks and a noticeable gold shimmer. Like Bonfire, the shimmer is complex when you look at it up close, there are hints of copper, and maybe even purple. I found this to be a very flattering shade, you could even say it's a work appropriate indie polish (one of the few!). The colour also tends to shift based on the light - I found it to be either a warm or cool-toned colour depending on how the light hit. This one is also 2 coats, but I found it to be a bit thicker than Bonfire.

The application on these colours was good. Both dry to somewhat of a matte finish, I think because of the types of pigments used, but a top coat fixes that immediately. I found both of these polishes to be excellent in quality and uniqueness. The shimmer found in each one is gorgeous, and the darker flecks add interest. I'm curious, have you tried Contrary Polish? What do you think of these?

P.S. I'm trying to put better watermarks on my photos now that they have been circulating a lot more. I don't have a program that can do those fancy curved watermarks, but I've seen other bloggers do small text at an angle near the finger nail. So if the new watermark looks totally intrusive and distracting, would you let me know - okay? :D
